Welcome to Humboldt State University's social network for parents and families.

The HSU Parents & Family Cookbook is now online!

We put a call out to parents and family like you to help provide some recipes for students making their own Thanksgiving dinners and you really came through.

Share these recipes with your student to help them perk up their first Thanksgiving away from home, or just diversify their weekly food-routine. After all, a student can’t survive on pizza alone.

Check it out on my Student Recipes blog. You can post additional recipes there or send me your recipes directly, at dp93@humboldt.edu.

Hampton Inn has a very nice pool (indoor). I recently had to spend 9 nights there. Could not have been more pleasant. It's pricey for the area but still cheap by LA standards. I highly recommend a trip 10 min east on the 299 to tiny quaint Blue…

I ditto  Bills very informative posting. Yes, 1st year is challening for many reasons (trying to get classes, and learning to live in the dorm was my daughters biggest issues). Cal State cutbacks make it  more diffult to get classes, so my…

Hi Bill, Thank you for your thorough post! My husband and I would very much appreciate hearing about your 1st year experience at HSU. Maybe we all can get together some weekend coming up for lunch at a local spot. Michele

In Arcata; newest hotel and nicest facility, hot breaksfast,  is the Hampton Inn. Its also the most expensive in the area. Right accross the street is the Best Western where we always stay. Rooms are clean, beakfast is adequate. I never…

Travel is tough, no doubt about it. We debated between HSU and schools in Florida and no question, our son could have gotten to St Pete in less time for a third the cost compared to Arcata from LA.  Even paying through the nose on UA has its…

Housing comes through on Bed Bug Issue- Thank you -Lesson Learned

I received a very informative email from Student Affairs.  It clearly sets out the steps of how the school handles the Bed Bug issue.

My crying daughter seems to have only provided me with limited details of how Housing is handling this issue.  The room is being fumigated.  My daughter does has a choice on whether to return to the dorm room.  I was also informed that the occupy Humboldt man in the dorm issue was not reported, as I said before.. my adult daughter and her…

BED BUGS IN THE DORMS

Okay so my poor daughter is in tears.. not by her own fault I loaded her down with bed bug spray, bed bug prevention mattress cover.. so one can only deduct that since my daughter did not have any in her stuff and/or bed that it was the person living in her room. First housing comes in and finds the bed bugs in her roommates bed under her sheets and mattress.  My daughter was immediately moved into another suite.. was given funds to wash her clothes, and then told she is locked out of her…
